Period houses, conservation areas and planning
A lot of York sits in conservation areas, and there are plenty of listed buildings. That changes what you can put across a drive, so it's worth checking before you fall for a design.
We draw every gate for the house it's going on. Traditional ironwork, a boarded composite gate or something plainer, at a height that suits the frontage and the rules. If railings would finish it off, we'll make them to match.

How our gate finance worksDo I need planning permission for driveway gates?
Usually not. As a general guide you need it if the gate is over 1 metre high next to a road or footpath, over 2 metres high anywhere else, or at a listed building. In York, conservation areas are the one to watch, as they can bring extra restrictions. If in doubt, check with City of York Council before you order. We can draw the gate to whatever height works.
