Timber gates look wonderful for about two years. Then the sun and the Yorkshire rain get to work, and you are sanding, treating and repainting every spring, and eventually replacing a rail that has gone soft at the bottom.

A composite gate gives you the same warm, boarded appearance and takes none of that on. The boards will not rot, will not warp and hold their colour, so the gate you have in ten years looks like the gate you had in year one, with nothing more than a wash.

We build ours on a steel frame rather than a composite one. That is the part you cannot see and the part that matters: the frame carries the weight, keeps the gate square, and takes the automation gear if you want the gate to be electric. The composite does the looking good.

Is a composite gate as strong as a timber or metal one?

Ours are, because we build them on a welded steel frame and clad it in composite. The strength comes from the frame, exactly as it would in a metal gate, so a composite gate from us takes automation gear happily and holds its shape across a wide opening.

Will the colour fade?

Composite holds colour far better than painted timber, which is most of the point of it. There is no annual repaint, and no bare patch where the weather has got at a corner. A wash down is the whole maintenance routine.

Can composite gates be automated?

Yes. Because there is a steel frame underneath, a composite gate takes Nice or DEA automation in the same way a metal gate does. We fit the automation, the groundworks and the electrical supply ourselves and certify it at handover.

How much do composite gates cost?

It depends on the width of the opening, the design and whether it is manual or automated. We do not publish a price list because a made-to-measure gate does not have one. What we do give you is a free site survey and then a fixed written quote, so the number you are told is the number you pay.
