How much do composite gates cost?
A pair of composite driveway gates for a 3m opening starts at £3,200 manual or £6,610 electric, fitted and including VAT. Sliding and cantilever gates cost more, and a 4.5m electric cantilever runs to £8,900. A single composite side gate starts at £1,950. The final price is fixed in writing after a free site survey.
Those figures come straight off the price list our instant gate price calculator uses. Every one covers making the gate in our workshop at Scholes, Leeds, the finish and fitting by our own team. No subbies, and no extras sprung on you on the day.
Below is the full composite column, what moves the number up or down, and how composite compares with aluminium and wrought iron on price.
Composite gate prices by opening width
Find the row that matches how you want the gate to open, then read across to the width of your opening.
| Gate | 3m | 3.5m | 4m | 4.5m |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| Manual pair (swing) | £3,200 | £3,400 | £3,500 | £3,700 |
| Manual bi-fold or tracked slider | £4,050 | £4,450 | £4,750 | £5,050 |
| Manual cantilever | £4,400 | £4,800 | £5,100 | £5,400 |
| Electric pair (swing) | £6,610 | £6,820 | £7,150 | £7,500 |
| Electric sliding | £7,150 | £7,400 | £7,500 | £7,950 |
| Electric cantilever | £8,000 | £8,190 | £8,400 | £8,900 |
If your manual gate is going to be under 1.5m tall, it comes in £150 cheaper than the figure shown.
How much is a single composite side gate?
Single gates are priced at a standard size rather than by width:
- Pedestrian or side gate, about 1 to 1.1m wide and 1.8m tall: £1,950
- Single driveway gate, about 2m wide and 1.8m tall: £2,400
They're quicker to make too. Side and garden gates are typically three to four weeks, against eight to twelve weeks for most electric gate jobs. Our garden and side gates guide goes into the options.
What makes one composite gate cost more than another?
Four things move the price more than anything else.
The width of the opening
A wider opening means longer boards, a bigger steel frame and, on an electric gate, more work for the motors. Compare the 3m and 4.5m columns above to see what the extra width costs on each style.
How the gate opens
A swing pair is the cheapest way to fill an opening. If there's no room behind the gates for them to swing, a bi-fold or tracked slider is the next step up. A cantilever gate costs the most. It hangs off rollers beside the opening, so there's no track across the drive, which helps on gravel or uneven ground.
Manual or electric
Going electric roughly doubles the price at 3m: £3,200 manual against £6,610 electric for a swing pair. That covers the Nice or DEA motors, the control board, the safety devices and the extra work on site. The groundworks, ducting and power supply are done by our own team, and the whole lot is certified at handover.
Access control and extras
Fobs, keypads, video intercoms, GSM units that ring your mobile and app control are all available, and they're priced once we know how you'll use the gate. Matching railings can go on the same quote, in the same finish.
Is composite cheaper than aluminium or wrought iron?
Composite comes in below aluminium on every line of our price list. Against our wrought iron designs it's close. Composite is cheaper or level on swing pairs, sliding gates and bi-folds, while the Bronze wrought iron design is a little cheaper on single gates and some cantilever sizes.
| Gate | Composite | Aluminium | Wrought iron, Bronze design |
|---|---|---|---|
| Manual pair (swing) | £3,200 | £3,350 | £3,350 |
| Electric pair (swing) | £6,610 | £6,800 | £6,710 |
| Electric sliding | £7,150 | £7,240 | £7,350 |
| Side gate (about 1m) | £1,950 | £2,350 | £1,850 |
Price shouldn't be the only thing that decides it, mind. Composite gives you privacy and a timber look. Aluminium suits a modern house. We've laid out the rest in composite vs aluminium gates.
What do you get for the money?
Our composite gates are built on a welded steel frame and clad in composite boards. The frame does the structural work, keeps the gate square across a wide opening and carries the motors if it's electric. The boards do the looking good.
Composite doesn't rot, doesn't warp and never needs repainting. A wash down is the whole maintenance routine, which is a big part of why people pick it over timber.
"...installed some very nice composite electric front gates for me. They look great and have a nice smooth action..."

Composite gate price questions
Do composite gate prices include fitting?
Yes. Every price on our list includes making the gate in our Leeds workshop, the finish and fitting by our own team, with VAT included. The final figure is fixed in writing after a free site survey.
How much is a single composite side gate?
A composite side or pedestrian gate about 1 to 1.1m wide and 1.8m tall starts at £1,950 fitted. A single composite driveway gate about 2m wide starts at £2,400.
How much more are electric composite gates?
At a 3m opening, a manual composite pair starts at £3,200 and an electric composite swing pair at £6,610. The difference covers the Nice or DEA motors, the control board, the safety devices and the extra work on site.
Do composite gates need any maintenance?
Very little. Composite doesn't rot, warp or need repainting, so a wash down is the whole routine. An electric composite gate should still have its automation serviced once a year.
How long do composite gates take to make?
Side and garden gates are typically three to four weeks. Most electric gate jobs take eight to twelve weeks from approved design to fitting, and we confirm the date when we quote.
