A driveway gate has to fit the driveway it is going on. Slope, width, where the wall ends, which way the ground falls, how much room there is behind the opening. Those things decide whether the gate swings, slides or runs on a cantilever, and no catalogue can tell you that.

So we come and look. We measure the opening, take in the property, and draw a gate that suits both. Then we make it in our Leeds workshop using the same techniques we have used for over twenty years, and our own engineers fit it, including the groundworks and the electrical supply if it is going to be automated.

Whether it ends up manual or electric is a decision we make with you after the survey rather than before it. A wide opening on a slope with nowhere to swing needs a sliding gate. A pair of hand-operated gates on stone pillars might be exactly right for a period property. We will tell you honestly which one your driveway wants.

Frequently asked

Should I choose manual or electric driveway gates?
It depends on the driveway and how you use it. Electric makes sense if you are in and out several times a day, if the driveway is on a slope, or if security matters. Manual is often right for a quieter property or a period house where the look matters most. We will give you an honest recommendation after the site survey rather than pushing you towards the more expensive option.
What material should driveway gates be made from?
Wrought iron and mild steel suit period and traditional properties and can be made to almost any design. Composite gives you a timber look with no rot and no repainting. Aluminium is light, rust-free and suits modern properties. We make all of them, so the recommendation is based on your house and not on what we happen to stock.
How wide can a driveway gate be?
Wider than most people expect. A pair of swing gates covers most domestic openings, and beyond that a sliding or cantilever gate will span openings that swing gates cannot. We have built commercial cantilever gates for logistics yards, so a wide domestic driveway is not a problem. The survey confirms what the opening will take.
